Computer security expert signs on to close security gaps for MIL clients
BOWIE, Md.—October 01, 2013— Touted as one of the strongest growth opportunities for defense contractors, cybersecurity is a high-demand service in the federal market today. With October serving as the 10th Annual National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the importance of this field is being discussed from federal offices to your own home. The MIL Corporation (MIL), a mid-sized government contractor with stakes in the Southern Md. defense market, recently expanded its services to encompass this competitive area of expertise.
New and emerging technologies, such as mobile and cloud computing advancements, introduce unique threats and vulnerabilities into homes and organizational enterprises in today’s marketplace. MIL sought to close this gap in its service offerings, and now supplies cybersecurity development, operations, and risk mitigation support to address every phase of the systems development lifecycle.
“Adding cybersecurity as a business sector was a strategic choice for MIL,” said MIL COO, Ed Greer. “Our experience in offering information assurance and systems security services allows us to grow our capabilities and expand our reach to new defense clients through this new sector.”
Cybersecurity expert, Mr. Anthony Stephens, is set to join the MIL Cybersecurity Sector this October. Stephens brings with him over 10 years of professional experience in military cyber defense operations, which encompass solutions and the management of teams in defending, restoring and recovering various networks and data repositories.
Recent MIL cybersecurity projects include supporting a Department of Defense customer in preparing for a Command Cyber Readiness Inspection (CCRI), which ensures connections to the Global Information Grid (GIG) are secure. In addition, MIL aims to provide network and system protection via partnering with government and private sector customers to support a “whole government” cybersecurity strategy.
MIL cybersecurity services currently include: Computer Network Defense (CND) support; information assurance; Informational System Security management Professional (ISSMP); Certification and Accreditation (C&A); certification and audit support; and disaster recovery; technical vulnerability and risk assessments.
“DHS is focusing this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month message on the future- what the next 10 years are going to look like in federal and private sectors,” said Stephens. “The FY2013 DoD Cybersecurity funding is currently estimated at $3.4billion, and it is predicted to jump in years to come. This is a key indicator that forward thinking in this field is not a luxury, but a requirement. I plan to help make MIL a big part of it.”
