MIL Honored with Maryland ESGR Above and Beyond Award
MIL recognized by DoD for showing exceptional support to National Guard and Reserve employees
BOWIE, Md.—May 11, 2018—The MIL Corporation (MIL) will receive the Maryland Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Above and Beyond Award at their Annual Employer Recognition Event on May 12. The prestigious award given by ESGR, a staff group with Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, recognizes employers who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) to provide exceptional benefits to its National Guard and Reserve employees.
To qualify for the Above and Beyond Award, the organization must be nominated by an employee and show that it provides their guard and reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits such as differential or full pay to offset lost wages, extended health benefits, and other similar benefits. Alex Sutherland, an MIL Salesforce solutions architect submitted MIL’s nomination in Dec. 2017.
As a member of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, Sutherland reflected on his own experience with MIL when completing the nomination. His submission commended MIL for its acceptance of military duty absence, veteran status recognition during the hiring process, and human resource policies for reservists commitments and calls to active duty.
“Even in the interview process, I was impressed with MIL’s support for the military,” said Sutherland. “Primarily in the work that we do for the DoD, but also in the generous and clearly-defined military leave and support policies established for MIL employees. I was also very gratified that MIL showed no hesitation in making me an offer despite my disclosure during the interview process that I already had several significant reserve military training commitments and deployments upcoming.”
The Above and Beyond Award is issued by the Department of Defense on behalf of the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve. This recognition is given in limited numbers by ESGR state committees to employers at the local level who display patriotic support and cooperation to their employees.
“MIL is thrilled and humbled to receive the Above and Beyond Award, said COO Marisa Daley. “We pride ourselves in providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all of our employees, but it is a special privilege to employ members of our great military. It is very important that we show our gratitude for their service and sacrifice – it certainly does not go unnoticed within our organization.”
MIL will be recognized on May 12 at the ESGR Employee Recognition Event in Annapolis, Md.
