Jeffrey Delaney
System Security Engineer, Senior
When did you start working at MIL?
I began working for MIL in October 2021.
Describe your career path:
I retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service. During my military career, I earned a master’s degree in Cybersecurity/Cyber Operations and completed CompTIA’s Security+ and EC-Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker certifications. I was fortunate to be accepted by MIL into their DoD SkillBridge program, where I subsequently received a position as a System Security Engineer (SSE). I have had the privilege of supporting three different program offices within NAVAIR at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. I currently provide SSE support to PMA-201 Precision Strike Weapons, while leading a team of SSEs within MIL’s Cyber Division.
In terms of career growth, what is one piece of advice you would offer someone beginning a career at MIL?
If there is one piece of advice I would offer someone beginning a career at MIL, it would be that communication is key. Effective communication is vital with your teammates, your leadership, and, most importantly, your government clients.
What is one piece of career advice you would give a recent college graduate?
If I could encourage a recent college graduate, I would tell them to expect failure. No one gets where they want to be professionally without experiencing a few failed attempts or bumps along the way. Learn from your failures, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
What do you love about your current position, and/or overall career at MIL?
MIL inspires and offers employees opportunities to become a leader. They value diversity and inclusion. I love that MIL creates an environment that feels like a tight-knit community.
