Sonja Moore
Senior Analyst
Years at MIL: 5
What were you doing before joining MIL?
Before joining MIL, I was a management analyst who assisted the program and financial management analyst for a bureau at the State Department. In this role, I routinely processed invoices, travel documents, and resolved issues pertaining to financial analysis and program analysis by using my knowledge of the State Department regulations and government systems.
Why did you decide to join MIL?
I was approached by an MIL recruiter to join MIL. I did some research on the website, went through a great interview process, and decided to accept the offer. I realized it was a great opportunity to expand my knowledge in travel and government systems. I was up for a new challenge in my career.
What are you working on now?
I am currently one of the subject matter experts here at the Department of State for the GET (E2) Travel System. I provide administration and configuration task support, perform business analysis, and train bureaus on current processes. In addition, I also provide technical support through a tiered help desk system. In addition, I test software releases and enhancements for the State Department E2 travel Community.
What is important about your work?
Through my work, I can contribute to the travel community here at Department of State to make sure their experience with the system as well as going and coming back from their destination is a pleasant one. I can affect change in the E2 System to adhere to the needs of my Agency.
What are the best aspects about your current job?
I honestly can say I love the atmosphere and the people I work with daily. I also love that I can work on the back end of the travel system and still be able to communicate with the E2 Community on a regular basis.
Why do you enjoy working at MIL?
One of the reasons that I enjoy working at MIL is being able to take a break and attend events at the MIL Capital One Arena suite. It gives you the opportunity to get to know your coworkers outside of the office. In addition, the work atmosphere is truly great!
What is the most challenging project you’ve working at MIL?
The most challenging project I believe so far working at MIL was transitioning all State Department E2 Travel system users to single sign on, a redesign initiative. We had a short window and several thousand travel system users to include post and domestic.
