What were you doing before joining MIL?
I was an AV Programmer and Technician who dealt with multi-media systems in various environments, such as residential, commercial, and government.
Why did you decide to join MIL?
I saw an opportunity to work alongside a great company and help expand upon my current knowledge. Also, I’ve worked with MIL before as a subcontractor so I already knew the great quality of people I would get to work with!
What are you working on now?
I am currently on-site helping with an installation at Scott AFB and when I get back, I will be working on the “AFIP Lab” system that will be installed at the MIF on Great Mills Road. This system will be utilized for testing new equipment and providing another conference room for employees to interact within.
What is important about your work?
What’s important about my work is it’s not only my work. There is a team of people I get to work with every time I go on-site, and we accomplish a professional installation that our customers end up loving.
What are the best aspects about your current job?
The best aspect of my job is the huge sense of pride I feel when our customers get to use the finished product. Hearing their appreciation for the work we put into their systems is very rewarding.
Why do you enjoy working at MIL?
My coworkers and the work environment are by far the best reason. Everybody is friendly and we all can joke around with each other. It definitely makes work not feel like work!
What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on at MIL?
I would say the most challenging project was going to Germany and having to install three AV systems within five weeks. These systems varied in size, but what really made them a challenge was that I had to reacclimate to a programming language that I hadn’t really touched in almost two and a half years AND learn a code template that I have never seen before.
What is the best piece of career advice you can offer someone in your field who is either applying to or beginning a career at MIL?
I would have to draw on how I best learned my field…PROGRAMMING! People who are really trying to understand how AV systems work should attempt to get their feet wet in Crestron, AMX, and Extron programming. Learning at least two of those languages helped me tremendously when learning how all of the devices in an AV system talk to each other.
