Touch Panel Wall Mount Design

Challenge
MIL’s customer was updating classroom equipment at an Andrews Air Force Base installation. The outdated AMX system used a wall mounted touch panel and the replacement provided was a Cyviz tabletop touch panel that is not offered in a wall mount version. If MIL used the new touch panel on a tabletop as designed, it would require patching a hole in a wood veneered wall or leaving the old unit in place to fill the void. A recessed shelf to support the new touch panel within the existing hole was suggested. Unfortunately, neither option presented a viable solution.
Solution
The REPS mechanical engineering team inspected the Cyviz touch panel for a way to attach it to the wall without modifying the equipment. Any equipment modification would void the product warranty. On a Thursday afternoon, the team decided to use rare earth magnets to attach the touch panel to the wall. By Friday, the product was fabricated in our local annex and then it was delivered to a nearby vendor for a powder coat finish on Saturday. Our rapid response meant that the panel was ready for installation on Monday!
Benefit
The customer received an end-product that met all of their wants and needs. The solution was delivered in true REPS fashion—on time, within budget, and to ardent appreciation. The REPS team really earned their moniker on this project:
Rapid – From initial problem identification to final product installation, less than a week elapsed. That’s fast even by REPS team standards!
Engineering – MIL’s mechanical team effectively defined the customer requirements and problem set and conceptualized and configured an end-product design that would meet each and every parameter. They then selected the appropriate materials and construction process and utilized accepted engineering principles to develop a fully workable model.
Prototyping – As no existing product met all of the customer’s needs, the MIL team customized a preliminary mockup of the touch panel mount housing that would effectively meet all form, fit, and function requirements. Witness for yourself the first prototype test fit and final product test fit.
Solutions – The REPS team met the challenge presented by the task and designed and developed an effective product that met the customer’s vision. They also oversaw the fabrication of the ultimate end-product and installed the custom mount, which was enthusiastically accepted by another satisfied REPS customer.
